Engineering / Compliance FAQ
None. There are no standards for break glass devices anywhere in the world. safeTpunch have set our own independently tested minimum performance criteria.
No, there are no certifications or minimum performance standards to measure a hammer by.
It is compliant if it performs the same function as the existing alternative and conforms to the relevant regulations for emergency exits.
Glass must be toughened to E43R, BS857 or equivalent standard. The size of the emergency exit aperture is governed by local road transport regulations.
safeTpunch devices comply to the requirements of UNECE R107 (Accepted almost universally), ADR 44 (Australia and New Zealand, basically a copy of R107) and FMVSS217 (United States of America)
Certifications are only awarded if the device in question complies with an internationally recognised standard. In the case of break glass tools or devices, there are none.
The parts are internally tested 1/100. Reports and devices are kept for 1 year before recycling and reconditioning.
We have ISO 9001:2008 Quality Control Certification audited by TUV Rheinland in German.
Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis studies are completed with every component part, sub assembly and fully assembled device.
Yes. safeTpunch has our own manual but robust Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System.
safeTpunch have a relatively small number of components and all the parts are assembled by hand so the chance of Non-Conforming Products (NCP) being shipped is extremely small.
Yes but only if the proposed design alteration withstands our DFMEA scrutiny, falls within the scope of our ISO 9001:2008 and improves the cost and quality of our products.
Under our Warranties, our ISO and our liability Insurances, we have to supply instructions sticker with every safeTpunch. Our design elements and iconography are copyrighted and may not be used without licensing.
No. safeTpunch products are identified by Trademark, Design and Unique Serial Number.
Yes. Under the right circumstances we can allow for other brand logos to share the customer-facing portion of some of the products only.
Our warranty is indefinite as it stands, but we will apply the same warranty period as the vehicle manufacturer offers.
Yes. We have structures in place for licensed manufacture.
Device Performance FAQ
The STP40D is very good at standard and heavy duty or non-standard roles. i.e. glass of indeterminate thickness and curved toughened glass. STP40D punches are also effective but not guaranteed on double glass units up to 28mm. Non-standard applications must be tested and approved by the client.
safeTpunch devices are made out of non-corrosive and environmentally stable materials, except for the anodising, which fades in sunlight over time. We replace the anodised finish with red Gunkote, laser etched as normal.
Wintech Engineering have independently tested the STP40FA on 6mm BS857 glass and we have performed successful informal tests on 8mm BS857 toughened glass.
Yes. safeTpunch devices are all designed to be used fully submerged if necessary.
safeTpunch have a production option for photo-luminescent instructions stickers.
safeTpunch have a production option for braille embossed instructions and seat-back direction to the nearest exit location.
safeTpunch devices are designed to deliver each consecutive blow to the same place on the toughened glass, so strike multiple times if necessary.
safeTpunch impact tips are many times harder than toughened glass and can be re-used or recycled many times before decommissioned by us.
Yes. N and D-series devices can be reconditioned and refitted with the spare tape and safety tags. F-series devices will need to be returned to us for reconditioning. We will replace any returned safeTpunch free of charge.
If the red button and safety tag can be turned freely by hand, the device is operable. Check General Maintenance manual STP-GM.
Remove the safety tag and press around the edge of the button, if the button depresses, the device is operable. Replace or refit the safety tag. Check General Maintenance manual STP-GM.
This varies from model to model, so please check General Maintenance manual STP-GM.
End User FAQ
No. A windshield is made of laminated glass which is designed to be as impact and penetration resistant as possible.
No. Laminated glass is designed to be as impact and penetration resistant as possible.
No, safeTpunch work exclusively toughened glass that conforms to standards like BS857 or E43R.
Yes. safeTpunch impact tips will penetrate anti-scratch films and break the glass beneath.
Yes, but as anti-graffiti film chemically “shrugs off” the inks or dyes in markers and spray paint, it may have the same effect on the safeTpunch and sticker adhesives.
Fix: We suggest removing the film under the safeTpunch and sticker assembly, exposing the glass for the adhesives to be reliable.
Anti-vandal film is a combination of anti-scratch and anti-graffiti film and will probably shrug off the adhesives on the safeTpunch and the sticker.
Fix: We suggest removing the film under the safeTpunch and Sticker assembly, exposing the glass for the adhesives to be reliable.
No, safeTpunch is built to withstand a lot of abuse. If a part is damaged beyond usefulness, we will replace the damaged part if it’s returned to us.
safeTpunch are supplied with a safety tag that must be removed before the device is armed. Then it takes a deliberate strike to break the glass.
We have had no reports of improper use to date.
safeTpunch is extremely difficult to remove without tools if properly installed and allowed to cure for 72 hours.
Check the edges are completely smooth and rounded, find the glass standard mark sandblasted close to the edge or view the glass through a polarised lens, looking for a dotted pattern caused by the toughening process.
Toughened glass is designed to shatter into small cubes the size at the glass’ thickness and therefore unable to cause harm.
safeTpunch will only work when sufficient force is applied. The minimum strike force required is that of an average 12 year old person.
Instructions Stickers FAQ
Under our Warranties, our ISO and our liability Insurances, we have to supply instructions sticker with every safeTpunch.
Our design elements and iconography are copyrighted and may not be used without licensing.
Yes. These are more expensive however and only the “white portions of the sticker will fluoresce.
Yes. This can be achieved easily by following the maintenance manual “STP Sticker Replacement”
We offer braille embossed instructions for use and seat-back communication of the location of the emergency exits.
If a translation is approved and supplied by the client, we will create the artwork; require approval from client and supply as requested. Low volume print runs can be more expensive.
Yes, with an accurate client brief, we will create the artwork; acquire approval from client and supply as requested. Low volume print runs can be more expensive.
We recommend replacing them every two years or when they are damaged physically or by the sun.
